Mitch’s Music Lessons

ABOUT THE LESSONS:
I am available to teach beginner and intermediate students of all ages on Guitar, Mandolin, and Ukulele. I also love assisting students with songwriting and music recording/production! If you’re interested in learning piano, bass, or singing, I can put you in touch with other fantastic teachers who specialize in these categories :)

My lessons begin by learning what inspires you as a musician, and working to take you where you want to go! Learning some of your favorite songs is often a great place to start. By learning a variety of music, you'll quickly begin to notice patterns & understand basic theory on what notes work together well. From there, you can apply that knowledge to improvisation, as well as songs you may want to write! From those first few lessons, there's a million different ways we can explore the guitar together. With my lessons, I offer recording time in my home studio where you can learn how to write, record, produce, and mix fully arranged songs!

FIRST LESSON IS FREE! Lessons can be taught in-person at my home in NE Seattle, or at your home for an added travel fee. Virtual lessons are also available for anyone, anywhere! Virtual lessons are done through Zoom, though Zoom audio honestly isn’t great for music. Depending on your home technology options, I’ve discovered a few options for improved sound quality during virtual lessons.

ABOUT ME:
My name is Mitch Etter. I’m a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in the band Hi Crime. I am a self-taught musician with over 15 years of experience playing electric and acoustic guitar. I bought my first electric guitar at age 13 after earning money mowing lawns. In music classes at school, I struggled learning sheet music and understanding theory, so when I bought my guitar I decided not to take lessons. Instead, I focused on learning the songs I enjoyed at the time (lots of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd). I quickly blossomed on the instrument, and began to spend several hours a day playing guitar. Though without formal training, I later realized that I had to unlearn some bad technique I adopted early on.

The lessons I give reflect the lessons I would have liked to take when starting out. I won't immediately beat you over the head with technical information, music is supposed to be fun! We can start learning songs from your favorite artists, and pretty quickly you'll find you're noticing chord patterns and learning theory in a way that's fun and practical to your goals! From there, I can work with you to apply your knowledge to new levels of playing, songwriting, improvisation, and many aspects of music production.

Specialty genres: Indie, Rock, Pop, Alternative, Psychedelic, Folk, Acoustic.

My favorites: The Beatles, Animal Collective, David Bowie, Alvvays, John Frusciante, Gorillaz, Blur, Tame Impala, Radiohead, Talking Heads, Kurt Vile, Neil Young, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Electric Light Orchestra, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, MGMT, and lots of others, but that's a good start.
