About the Song
Live Video
“Good Feelings” originated as two songwriting exercises, created a decade apart, that eventually met each other as one complete song.
11 years ago, I wrote the music for the verse section with the goal of creating a catchy melody, using only one chord. All up until the song’s chorus, the music continually stays on an E major chord.
The other songwriting exercise came in late 2025, when I gave myself the challenge to write a song based around a sample. I am deeply inspired by music that uses sampling, but had never experimented with it myself. Listening to Panda Bear & Sonic Boom’s song “Livin’ in the After” specifically inspired me to find a classical music sample I could chop up. The Donizetti String Quartet No 15 is the one I latched onto for this experiment. The fast-paced, dynamic string quartet in the chorus felt like a perfect counter to the chill, meditative music in the verse.
Live performance, recorded for the NPR Tiny Desk Contest, 2026.

Wave goodbye to the mirror you've been cursing into
At the end of day
Debase yourself no more
Reflect some light onto the grey
Dancing out the mantra
Ivy crawling up the walls
Battles already fought in the head
Darling, take a walk
But when good feelings get away
Electric current faraday
Can't stop the moment coming in in in in
Getting deep under the skin
The feelings always in a firecracker wire
Lighting the fuse
Don't forget its so
It's so much better when you smile
Fall off into the deep end of
The waters you drown in
Immersive bathe and navigate
The prunes undo your hands
Get a grip and take a dive
Into the other place
Breathe in deep just to choke on the air
Darling, work it out
